When it comes to cataract, people usually think of old people who suffer from it. But cataract is a disease which affects children too and since a child’s eye is very different from an adult’s, the diagnosis and surgical treatment of children requires specialized equipment and training in pediatric ophthalmology. Even though this picture was taken at ORBIS‘s partner Deep Eye Care Foundation in Rangpur, Bangladesh and not in our partner Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital in Dhaka, it exemplifies how much cataract surgeries can change (and improve!) a child’s life – no matter where. Four-year old Simul Babu who had a cataract operation thanks to ORBIS points it out: “I can see now and can play with my friends. Before the operation everything looked blurry. Now I can see.”
