Yesterday night we had the pleasure to host „Contemporary Cinema“, a very special event at Soho House with IWISHUSUN. Berlin´s finest, our dearest friends and supporters joined for an evening of movies in the private cinema of Soho. The purpose of IWHISHUSUN – to save sight – has been introduced and how we achieve this goal was shown in a short documentary of our charity partner ORBIS in Bangladesh.
Since our theme are eyes, sight and vision, we did feel it is the exact right environment to present the documentary movie „ Marina Abramovic – The Artist Is Present“. Performaning at her MoMa Retrospective Show in 2010, she sits still on a chair. From the audience, one person at the time sits opposite her and they look at each other in silence – for as long as it takes for the person to get up and leave again. The intensity of this visual exchange of energy is just beyond words.
The unforgiving consequence in Abramovic´s work inspires us daily to keep pushing and not to compromise in artistic issues. (And in our case also social issues!)
The drinks were mixed by DiSaronno – thanks to Phil and Flo – and we hope we inspired everybody who has been there with us!
PS: If you feel you want to support our cause you could do so with our direct donation link which we installed yesterday on our website. The money donated goes directly to ORBIS and the project we work with at Islamia Eye Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh! Thanks!
