“After a first piece last week, JR has been busy in Germany where he completed several new pieces on the streets of Berlin. In town for his “Wrinkles Of The City” project, the French artist new pieces are including portraits of ageing individuals who have, over the years, witnessed and experienced the transformation of Berlin.”
“The Wrinkles of the City is a world-scale project aimed to be presented in various cities around the world where “wrinkles”, human as well as architectural, can be found. Berlin being the 5th.
JR exhibits freely in the streets of the world, catching the attention of people who are not typical museum visitors. His work mixes Art and Act, talks about commitment, freedom, identity and limit. As he remains anonymous and doesn’t explain his huge full frame portraits of people making faces, JR leaves the space empty for an encounter between the subject/protagonist and the passer-by/interpreter.”
While his work is viewable in the streets of Berlin, he also puts on a show in the Galerie Henrik Springmann 17th. April- 25.May 2013.
